A card game isn't just designed. It's playtested into existence.
Nobody writes a great game on the first try. You make a version, put it in front of people, watch it break, and fix it — over and over — until it's fun. Most ideas die in the gap between "wouldn't it be cool if…" and a deck someone actually played. Playproof lives in that gap. Here's the whole arc, and exactly where it fits.
The spark
A hook, a turn structure, a feeling you want at the table. Playproof doesn't write your game for you — but the faster the idea becomes real cards, the faster you learn whether it's actually fun, or just fun to imagine.
Make it real
Define what a card tracks, design one layout, and your dataset becomes a deck — twenty cards or two hundred, all following the same template. This is the fastest path from "an idea" to "something I can hold," and it's the whole reason the app exists.
Put it in front of people
Export a print-ready PDF with real card dimensions and bleed. Cut, sleeve, deal. Watching real people play real cards is the only test that counts — and it usually humbles the design inside the first ten minutes. That's not failure; that's the point.
Break it, fix it, repeat
This is where games are actually made. Snapshot before a session, then rebalance hard — shift the whole cost curve from one number, retune a keyword, cut the card everyone hated. If it flops, roll back to the build that worked. Log what happened, and do it again next week. Playproof is built for the hundredth pass, not just the first.
Take it further
When the deck finally holds up, your assets come with you. Playproof is the workshop, not the storefront — it just makes sure you leave with something real and ready:
.playproof file hands a collaborator the entire game.Honest about where it starts and stops
Playproof isn't a rules engine, a virtual tabletop, or a marketplace — it won't simulate your game or sell it for you. It does one stretch of the road extremely well: the loop from a rough idea to a balanced, printable deck you've actually tested. That's the part where most games are won or quietly abandoned. Get through it with something real in your hands, and the rest of the road is yours.
A native Mac & iPad app is on the way.
Rebuilt from the ground up for Mac and iPad — the same playtest-first loop, made to feel truly at home on both. Here's where it's headed.
